Home Sweet Home. My home makeover with Gatehouse No 1.

Remember the remodel project that started with a single Chesterfield sofa from Gatehouse? I am so excited to finally be sharing the full project with you!! Every time I walk into our great room I think “this can’t be MY home?!” The whole project turned out better than I even imagined and I am so grateful that I was able to work with so many amazing people who offered their expertise on homes and design. Who is ready for a good Before & After? Well grab some popcorn and settle in for a bit, because this is going to be a long post:)

The biggest and most rewarding transformation was the great room, which I will be sharing first. This of course extended into other areas of our home, but more on that later….

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking “is this even the same house?” And to be honest, I can’t believe it is either. But yes, indeed this is the same house! Let me break down the process and the changes we made.

One of the best changes about the great room was the furniture layout. This room has always been a tricky room to furnish because of where the fireplace and stairs are located, Before the makeover, I felt like the room really didn’t have a focal point. It was just a room full of furniture. It wasn’t very cozy or inviting because everything was pushed away from each other and there was a wide abyss in between it all. The room isn’t very big, and I always felt limited on what I could accomplish in the space.

Enter Gatehouse No 1. If you’ve followed along for awhile, you will know that I went in to Gatehouse to buy a new sofa and before I knew it the crew was helping me with a brand new layout, new rug, new ottoman, new art, and accessories. It was a much needed update and I am so grateful I had a team of the best of the best helping advise me on some big decisions. Gatehouse is my number one go-to when I need some incredible furniture and accessories for my home! Everything they offer is incredibly well made and high quality. As an added bonus, I absolutely adore everyone who works there. They are incredibly talented, kind, and hardworking…which is my favorite type of person to work with.

Gatehouse suggested I center my room around the fireplace which seemed like it might not work because of the size of the room, but my mind was blown when not only did it work, but it was actually the perfect solution for the room! Centering everything around the fireplace made the room feel more cozy and gave it a focal point. The room no longer felt like a giant hallway to the kitchen.

Instead of keeping the great room open to the kitchen, we created some separation of the spaces by moving the spindle chairs to where the great room opens up into the dining area. This now gave me a very large wall to work with, which was super exciting because the chesterfield sofa is extra long and needed a very long wall to hang out against.

How about that art on the wall? Obsessed.

The sofa has a perfect home against this wall. My favorite thing about the sofa is the bench seat because it makes it extra loungey and comfortable. Even though the sofa looks formal, its actually very comfortable. I love the way the saddle leather ottoman makes things feel a bit more casual.

Creating separation between rooms using furniture:

Another important change was going bigger on the rug. I truly didn’t think I had enough room to do a rug so big, but I did. And guess what….it made the entire room feel bigger. I learned that a rug that is too small for the room makes the room feel smaller than it is. Increasing the rug size had a huge impact. This particular rug is available at Gatehouse. It is hand knotted and pretty much to die for in person. That deep blue color is so incredible.

We added the cute little pouf style ottomans to give the room extra seating without taking up too much space. They are upholstered in the most luxurious fabric that has a nubby weave that is soft and delicious.

The remodel project moved into the dining room and entry way since both spaces were located adjacent to the great room and needed updating as well. Here is the entry way before:

Once again, working with small space challenges in the entry way. But of course Gatehouse pulled it off beautifully. We were able to add a small console table, mirror, rug and two gorgeous poufs in a deep plum colored fabric.  A fresh coat of paint on the door worked wonders as well. Then the Gatehouse angels came and accessorized the area making it really come to life. I love that the area is beautiful and functional. It’s the best of both worlds.

The dining area was not on my plans for updating, so I don’t have “before” photos. But the “after” photos make my heart sing. I absolutely LOVE how this space came together as well. We completely changed this area with a new table, seating, sideboard, mirror, rug, and lighting.

The icing on the cake was the accessorizing that took place after all the main pieces of furniture were placed in my home. Floral, pillows, art, books, and chinoiserie were all added to my home to make it feel more personal and pulled together.

Here are some more photos of the great room:

To say I love how this turned out is an understatement. There truly are no words!! Thank you to Gatehouse for making all of my home dreams come true! All of the furniture, accessories, rugs, and artwork can be purchased at Gatehouse. Tell them I sent you!

In the next few days I will be sharing more information about the incredible custom drapes from Park City Blind & Design, the show stopping lighting from Hudson Valley Lighting, and the DIY golden gallery wall using frames from a thrift store that cost a dollar each.

Thank you for stopping by.
